History of Carousel Antique Mall

Britz, Claire and Chenoa are recent graduates from Roland-Story.  The three girls are getting ready for college but still have time for Antiques Iowa.  It is nice to have young people who are interested in old stuff.

Ronda is our book lover.  If you have a question about a children’s book, ask Ronda. Employee at Carousel Antique Mall in Story City, Iowa She has thousands in her collection.  She also has an amazing collection of rolling pins and cookie cutters.  Ronda is a dealer here at Antiques Iowa too and she has a nice selection of hats, books, kitchenware, etc in her booth.

Carol and her husband collect Christmas.  I have bought some wonderful Victorian Christmas ornaments from Carol for our local museum.   Besides their booth at Antiques Iowa, they are very busy setting up at the monthly at the D.M. Fairgrounds and at a lot of other weekend antique shows.

Ron is the only person I know that has his “summer” home in Story City – thirteen miles north of his winter home in Ames.   Ron recently retired from the ISU and wants to pursue one of his hobbies – antiques.   He is now a dealer at Antiques Iowa.   Ron has a very nice collection of Fisher Price and is an avid gardener.

Karly is a seldom seen staffer who give us limited hours – but we love it when she come back to work here.  She was here all of her highschool years and has collecting in her blood.

Angela came in to our mall to get rid of family stuff.  Just like me (Kim) she had a full garage – so what better way to get rid of “good stuff” than to rent a booth?  She is a lot of fun and we are glad that she wanted to join the staff too.

Rhys is an ISU graduate who majored in Management Information Systems (MIS).  As of Sept. 1st, 2010, Rhys has taken over the position of Manager here at Antiques Iowa. Rhys does not collect anything yet, except marriage advice from the dealers. Rhys will be working hard to keep the site more up-to-date!

Larry and Rita, a “couple” of Antiques Iowa staffers, come straight from ISU’s food service to work at Antiques Iowa on most Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.  Rita is an amazing cook and can create or copy any favorite dish.  Larry has a wealth of knowledge about antiques; his parents were dealers setting up when there were flea markets at Twin Anchors (Colo, Iowa) many years ago.  Larry and Rita are Antiques Iowadealers but you can also find them set up at the Iowa State Fairgrounds monthly flea market.

Nettie is my mother and answers to mom or Grandma Nettie.  She doesn’t collect anything except Grandma stories especially about her two youngest, Samantha and Alex.  She is busy meeting, Antiques Iowa employeesgreeting, wrapping purchases and opening cases for mall customers.  Nettie is also a dealer here at Antiques Iowa.  And she also will tell you “where to go” next!

Deb is our local “Marian the Librarian” but she won’t shush you as you come into the mall nor will Antique Mall employeesshe burst into song.  Deb’s real job is Roland-Story Elementary School Librarian and she works at Antiques Iowa Thursday nights and most Saturdays.  She has many collections CREATIVELY displayed in her home and can help you add to yours with things from our mall.  Ask for her ideas!
